How to Install Joomla Templates.
In this article, I am going to take you through the steps of installing joomla templates. This is a very simple process, but it is also crucial to the beautiful design and development of your Joomla website.
Without much ado, here's how to install...
- Select a Template: The first thing to of course, is to select a Joomla template of your choice. There are many websites online that offer all types including free, custom, commercial and business Joomla templates. Here is a list of some of the best Joomla template sites that you can find online. Whether you want free or commercial Joomla templates, you will find them here.
Now, choosing a template for your website should not be a problem. But here are a few tips that are self-evident, but do come in handy when you are a little unsure of what options to go with:- Avoid Free if Possible: Why? Because, free comes with a lot of strings attached. You may have to leave a lot of live links to the template creator's website, for example. Another reason is that you may need to use professional Joomla templates as free ones may not paint a good picture of you when your site visitors see all these links strewn on every page.
- Compare Clubs, Providers and Options: If you check the templates section of this site, you will notice that I have listed a few providers and clubs that offer you all types of templates. Now, not all of them offer all the features or bells and whistles that you need all the time. Some may be more suitable for you than others. But check which ones have more template customization options and any other goodies that may come with it before you decide on which one to roll with.
- You Can Always Change a Template: Now, you also have to know that it is easier than licking ice-cream in summer to change your template. So, because you installed a particular one today does not mean you cannot change it tomorrow if you find a better or more appealing one. It is as easy as pie. And I will show you how to do just that in a few minutes. Don't worry.
- Download the Template:The next thing to do is to download the template unto your computer once you find one that you like. This is necessary as you would then have to upload it to your Joomla website from your computer. You should be given instructions for downloading it by the site that is providing it; so, I won't go into those details here. But if you have downloaded an attachment before, you are already a pro at this.
- Install the Template: Ok, here is where have to do *some* work. But don't worry it has nothing to do with carrying back-breaking bricks. But pay attention carefully and it will be okay. :::I am patting you on the back to reassure you
:::- Login to Your Website: So, go to where you installed Joomla. This is usually something along the lines of mysite/administrator .It is the directory or website where you installed it with the /administrator added to it. This is the Admin Area of your website. Once you have done this, proceed to the next step below.
- Go to the "Extensions" tab at the top of the window in the Joomla admin area. Click on the Install/Uninstall menu link.
- In then new page, click on the "Browse". This will show you your computer folders. Select the Joomla template you downloaded earlier and click "Open". Now, you should be taken back to you site's Admin area.
- Upload and Install the Template: This should be as simple as clicking on the "Upload and Install" button next to the box where you have the template that you just selected from your computer. Once you click on the "Upload and Install" button, you will be given a confirmation that the installation is successful.
That about completes the steps to take to install Joomla templates on your website.
The next step is to actually modify and customize it to your own needs.
